Toll revenues amounted to 4,202 million NOK in 2023, an increase from 3,608 million NOK in 2022. Public grants totaled 214 million NOK in 2023, down from 387 million NOK in 2022.
Operating costs were 279 million NOK in 2023, up from 254 million NOK in 2022. The higher operating costs were mainly due to increased losses on claims, higher other operating costs, and slightly higher depreciation of assets.
Financial costs were 891 million NOK in 2023, up from 517 million NOK in 2022. The increase in financial costs in 2023 was primarily due to higher market rates on the floating portion of debt and a slightly higher loan balance throughout the year compared to 2022. Financial income was 269 million NOK in 2023, up from 150 million NOK in 2022. The increase was driven by higher interest rates and returns on deposits, but is partially offset by lower balance of deposits throughout the year compared to 2022.
As a result, net financial costs amounted to 623 million NOK in 2023, a significant increase compared to 367 million NOK in 2022. The result before depreciation of toll collection rights ended at 3,518 million NOK in 2023, up from 3,381 million NOK in 2022.
At year-end, Ferde had 17 toll projects with collection. Toll fees finance toll projects in Agder, Rogaland, and Vestland. We recorded a total of 289 million passages in 2023, compared to 279 million passages the previous year.
